Att a meeting of the Bowls South Africa Executive Committee held in Durban recently the following was agreed to: Piet Breitenbach (North West) will be the Executive’s nomination for President for 2005/2006. Debra Ferguson (Eastern Gauteng) will be the Executive’s nomination for Vice President for 2005/2006 Isabel Smith (Sables), Allan Freeman (Border) and Tys Pringle (Limpopo) are all available for re-election and will receive the support of the Executive. These nominations are formally covered in the Notice of the Annual General Meeting. As John McArdle (Eastern Gauteng), currently President, will vacate the position, after four years in office, at the Annual General Meeting. He will be nominated as a Director of World Bowls Ltd, a position that he is more than appropriately qualified for. The voting in terms of World Bowls Ltd’ Memorandum and Articles will take place in February 2006.
At the same meeting it was agreed to approach Wingate Park (Gauteng North) as the venue for the South African Masters and South African Senior Masters, subject to them accepting the nomination. Both Championships, will, for the first time take place during the same period. It was further agreed that Eastern Gauteng be approached to host the African States Tournament in 2006, to be held at Edenvale and Alberton Bowling Clubs. Currently the Men’s and Ladies National Tournaments have tended to follow a Rota system in determining their respective venues. This has been changed and Districts are requested to bid for these Tournaments should they feel they are adequately qualified. This procedure of bidding (tendering) will also apply to the following 2006 Tournaments and Championships: Inter Districts (Open, “B” and Senior), Under 25 and Mixed Pairs. Districts wishing to submit an application are in the first instance requested to contact the office for copies of the relevant Modus Operandi.
